Total Copier does just one thing: it copies or moves data from one location to another. But wait a minute, George! Isn’t that sort of functionality built into the Windows operating system? Why would I need a 3rd party application to transfer data from one place to another? My answer is that you don’t need Total Copier in your life. Total Copier’s answer on the other hand is that you’re going to enjoy the faster transfer speeds, the multi-clipboard feature, the option to automatically resume interrupted jobs, the option to shut down the PC when the transfer completes, and a few other functions.

At the time of writing this, two Total Copier versions are available for download: Total Copier 4.0 which is compatible with Windows 8 and Windows 10, and Total Copier 3.5 which is compatible with Windows XP and Windows 7. The developer says that Total Copier doesn’t contain any viruses and if Windows SmartScreen detects it as a potentially dangerous application, you should ignore that warning.

By default, Total Copier will take over all data transfer tasks, meaning that whenever you press Ctrl + V to paste the data you copied, Total Copier will launch and handle the transfer. Alternatively, you can initiate a new transfer by going to File -> Add new task. If you don’t want Total Copier to automatically show up when you press Ctrl + V, go to the Settings menu and uncheck Activate Total Copier. Or better yet, just right click Total Copier's system tray icon and select Disable.

Completed or canceled, all tasks will remain listed on Total Copier’s interface until you remove them. If you pause a task before it completes, you can review all the files that are about to be transferred, with the option to remove or add files to that list. If the timer says that the task will take a lot of time to complete, you can open the Settings menu and instruct Total Copier to automatically shut down, sleep or hibernate your PC.

Although Total Copier is free software, it wants you to register and activate your copy. To do that you’ll have to go to the Softyour.com website and provide the following information: first & last name, gender, email address, and ZIP code. Whoever owns the Softyour.com website doesn’t speak English very well. The text is borderline incomprehensible, and that smells fishy to me.

Total Copier promises to copy and move files or folders faster than Windows. It can resume interrupted transfers, it can add new files to a running task, and it can automatically shut down your PC when done.

Pros

Installing Total Copier takes little time and effort. Figuring out the interface takes little time and effort as well. Total Copier can copy and move files or folders, it can pause and resume file transfers, it lets you remove and add files to a task, and it can automatically shut down the PC. Total Copier features a multi-clipboard that lets you work with up to 9 clipboard entries. Total Copier is free software.

Cons

Nag screen that asks you to register and activate your copy. The sound it plays when it’s done is annoying. The official Total Copier website is almost incomprehensible.
